Single player - win conditions and game settings

Postby aubergine on 22 Feb 2011, 01:30

Hi,

It would be great if single player games had a choice of win conditions when starting the game:

1. City slicker - capture all cities

2. Capitol hill - capture all the big cities on the map to win

3. Rat race - capture all the small cities on the map to win

4. King of the hills - place at least one unit on every hill to win

5. King of the jungle - place at least one unit on every forest (excluding hills) to win

6. Desert warrior - place at least one unit on every empty land tile to win

7. Water baron - place a bomber over every lake to win

8. Air superiority - place a bomber on every city to win

9. Tank commander - place a tank on every city to win

For each win condition, the % could be set - it would default to 100% (eg. on King of the hills, all hills would need to be occupied) but could be set lower.

It would be awesome if there was an option to set more than one win condition and then choose either "Achieve all win conditions" or "Achieve any win condition".

One other game setting that would be nice: Nuclear treaty = no nukes allowed.

Maybe a simple table would work for setting the win conditions:

  • First column would be a checkbox to enable or disable a win condition.
  • Second column would be percentage ownership required to win (a slider that defaults to 100%)
  • Third column would be the names of the terrain types, one per row (cities, big cities, small cities, hills, lakes, forests, deserts, etc.)
  • Fourth column would be troop type - select from: any, none, infantry, tank, bomber

Above the table there would be the "all/any" option, as a drop down.

So...

To win, [any][v] of these conditions must be met

[ ] cities (any size)
[x] 100% of big cities with any troops
[x] 80% of small cities with tanks
[ ] hills
[x] 80% of lakes with bombers (bombers would be only troop type for lakes row)

and so on.. :)

Also, ability to save the win conditions would be nice. The game would come with some pre-defined sets of win condition so players could quickly get up and running, but then they could change the win conditions and save them to re-use them in future games.

We will definitely be adding win conditions and more settings in the future, though I would personally prefer to make it as diverse and interesting as possible, rather than just % of held terrain type -- more of the same.

Examples that come to mind currently: hold one particular city for x turns, be the first to produce x bombers.

Suggestions are very welcome.

Yup - the more varied the conditions, the better.

Another one could be to stockpile nukes - have players try avoid using them but run the risk of being totally wiped off the map by other players.

Really wish there was a mode where I could completely destroy the enemy and capture 100% of their cities.

Currently game ends when I've conquered a certain percentage of the map (70% IIRC?) and then the whole map gets revealed teasing me with lots of enemy cities and troops. I wish I could keep playing beyond that point, to completely dominate the whole map. Otherwise, it just feels like I've not completed my conquest because there's still enemy on the map.

And even beyond that, it would be nice if I could then keep playing even longer, to amass troops on every map tile, because sometimes I'm reaaaalllly bored and just want something mind numbing to do at the end of a game. Of course, enemy would still get occasional drop pods and nukes so they'd keep trying to make a come-back.
