We are pleased to welcome you to the first Conquest 1v1 Tournament. If you might be interested in participating in a fun and exciting tournament just read through the next paragraphs.

Participation
Everyone who is willing to commit time for an extended tournament is welcome to join. Just sign up in the registration thread by simply replying with your nickname. In addition, if possible bookmark this thread here to keep up with future tournament related information.

Structure of the tournament
The whole tournament consists of two phases:
  • Group stage
The participating players will be divided as best as possible into groups of four players, with a maximum of five per group. The Group stage modus is Round Robin in each group: every player has to fight everyone in his own group. Further, each matchup consists of a single battle (bo1) between the two competitors. By winning one match against his opponent, the player gains three points for his group ranking. All participating players proceed to the Playoffs, regardless of how many group points he achieves. If a player does not forfeit any matches in the Group stage they are rewarded one ladder point. The winner of the group receives one additional point.
  • Playoffs
The Playoffs are the final stage of the tournament. Each player will get a predefined spot in the tournament tree, depending on the ranking he achieved in the groups. Now all players face their opponents in a Single Elimination with best of three matches (bo3). That means each player has to win two out of maximum three battles against his opponent to proceed into the next round, where he is going to face the winner of another pairing. In case of losing one Playoff round the player has to fight against another loser. Nevertheless each victorious match in the Playoffs gives the player 1 point for his overall profile ranking, regardless of if he's facing a winner or a loser. The size of the Playoff tree depends on the amount of players in the Group stage.

Playing times
Each week includes two round cycles (Sunday to Tuesday – Wednesday to Saturday) so each round must be played within 3 or 4 days depending on which cycle the round is in. This time contains arranging the match date and finally fighting the battles. After these 3-4 days a valid result must be posted into the results thread or reported to the tournament officials, otherwise both players will get a default loss. The match ups and the dead line will be posted by an official at the beginning of the new round cycle. All official times are GMT.
  • Group stage specific: In Group stage both players can postpone their match into another round cycle of the Group stage by both sending a request to the tournament officials with a fixed match date.
  • Playoff specific: The players are allowed to split up the third battle of the best of three matches to another date in the round cycle. If both players are not able to fight the third battle after a 1-1, the winner will be chosen by a coin flip. The first two battles have to be fought consecutively on the same day unless there are technical problems. If only one battle is fought by the end of the round cycle, both players gain a default loss (unless one is determined to be stalling and is given a forfeit).

Additional Rules of competition
  • Matches have to be played on the official duel servers with a 20 turn limit and 240 second turn time limit.
  • Leaving a match - this includes entering spectator mode - that has started and is not finished is considered a defeat (unless the opponent is willing to replay the match).
  • The winner has to verify the victory by posting a screenshot (of the last turn) in the results thread.
  • If one player doesn't respond in the scheduled 3-4 days, the other player gains a default win.
  • These rules may be changed or expanded at any point.

Rewards
  • 1st place: Gold medal, 5 overall points
  • 2nd place: Silver medal, 3 overall points
  • 3rd place: Bronze medal, 1 overall point
  • Victorious bo3 match: 1 overall point each
  • Full participation in Group stage: 1 overall point
  • 1st place in Group stage: 1 overall point

As an added stimulation, I'll make sure we add the medals players achieve in these tournaments to their profiles on the forums and also their in-game accounts once we implement achievements.

The total amount of players of 10 leads to 2 groups of 5 players. This means you have to fight 4 Group stage matches which have to been fought until March 17th, 2009.

As already mentioned in previous threads, you are allowed to move your match dates in the whole group stage as long as postponed matches will be announced before the end of the deadline. Otherwise they will be marked as a default loss for both players. If you want to move your match, write your opponent a PM and inform the tournament officials or use the scheduling thread instead.

Have fun and good luck!
