Victory conditions/Max turns?

Postby Matrix101 on 18 Oct 2010, 22:41

Being currently only Demo, I'd like to know more about some options of the full version.

What are the possibilities regarding Maximum turns number?
Is it possible to enter 'any' value, like 999 (+-) to ensure we go until victory conditions are meet?

It looks like controlling 75% of the cities marks the end of the game. Is it 75% of the cities or 75% of the total production?
Is it possible to change that % value in non-Demo options?

By the way, how about having an optional 'hold turns' value which combined with the previous one would give: you'll win if you hold x% of the cities (production?) for n continuous turns?

You can set maximum turns to unlimited.

At the moment you cannot change the victory condition, but it could be added.

Is there a specific reason why you think hold turns would add something to the game?

Well first the 75% limit prevents you for crushing the remaining enemies (which indeed is pointless I agree, but could be fun for a few more turns with friends ;).

Now when we reach 75% game is for sure over, as this is too much advance to imagine coming back.

So in play with 3 or more players setting stuff like hold 50% for say 4/5 turns could give a chance for the other players to come back by doing implicit alliance and concentrating fire on the leader. Maybe we could have more situation changes like that, but this would probably make games longer and require more than 2 players to really be useful.
It's probably easy to implement (we would just need a (n/N) indication next to the ratio of controlled cities on the GUI to show information, plus the internal changes of course, and maybe AI tuning which could be not so easy (?)).

That was just an idea, it should be tested to see if it's really fun.
At least the ability to simply change the 75% could allow those who want to to play 'extermination'. ;)

PS: You didn't answered my question: Is it 75% of the cities or 75% of the total production? Thanks.

Hm, just doesn't really feel necessary or really much different than a hard %. But we can definitely make it adjustable.

75% of the cities or 75% of the total production? Isn't that the same? I guess 75% of total production is more accurate if with cities you didn't take into account the difference between normal and mega cities.
