Language Files

Announce and discuss modifications to Conquest.

Language Files

If someone wants to have this stunning game in his native tongue, you might be lucky. As there are some nice guys/girls who have already translated nearly the whole game in different languages, you can easily modify Conquest to be capable to display the language of your choice.

Here a list of finished translations sets. I'll try to keep this list up-to-date, just send me your translation files or attach it in a post in this thread:

Language Files

To modify your Conquest language you have to do some customizing, I'll explain it in some steps right below.

How to modify your Language
  • First of all, pick your favourite language, just right-click it in the list above and "Save Target as ..." or left-click and press Ctrl S. (You need to do so in most cases, because the browser recognizes a text file and only displays it.)
  • Now, you should find the right destination for this file. In this case you need to go to the main root of Conquest (simply the directory where you installed it, default is Program Files/Conquest). You'll find a directory ModData and therein you must create a new directory if you haven't done before. Call it Languages. Please download or copy the language file into this directory.
  • After you successfully downloaded it, you have to do another step. Please go back to the main root of Conquest. There you'll find a file Conquest.cfg. Simply open it with a text editor (like Editor) and change one variable. Replace the value of LanguageFile with the name of the downloaded language file. Save your file and close the editor. Please do not change any paths in this config file as Conquest will automatically detect the modded file if you have put it into the right place.
  • Now start Conquest and enjoy!

Older version issues
Language files of versions lower than 0.14 are no more supported yet. Please use the default setting or create a new language file.

You want to translate yourself?
If you can't find your language here and you want to translate it yourself, just open the file English.cfg listed in the Data/Language directory (e.g. with a text editor like WordPad). Save it to another name (mostly common the name of your language) and translate all values of the variables you find there. Do not forget to save it into the ModData directory, otherwise it's going to be deleted by the auto-updater when you start Conquest. If you are done, please share it with other people and post it here or send me a PM/email with the attached language file.

Special note
Actually there is a possibility to display special characters like umlauts or accents and such stuff correctly. But I'm not sure whether all of your language related characters are supported though or some of them will be cryptic or not displayed (e.g. L with stroke/Ł or ł is not included in the font file and not supported by ANSI/ASCII). If you do not want to have a cryptic file, you have to simplify those not working letters. Do not save the text file with unicode coding as Conquest can't read the file then.

Special thanks to all translators!

Further questions? Don't hesitate to ask them.

After Unicode implementation the Suomi and German file now work perfectly with their special characters. Updated the German file.

After evolving to version 0.14 there are several conflicts with language files of older versions. The German, Finnish and Spanish language file cannot be used anymore. Nevertheless there is already a new German language file uploaded, so after installing it, you should have a new, working version.

Finnish and Spanish updates are missing for now.

French is now in the live version, you can select it in the settings menu. No longer needed here.
