Hey pucara,

as far as I know there is no correct LAN support in this version as every server has to communicate with the Master Server to be available in the server panel. I'm not sure if there was a IP join in the first versions, but I'm only guessing that there was one some time ago, probably it still works.

Although I doubt that Conquest actually features LAN hosting, I hope that I'm wrong. Nevertheless I think the devs are going to answer your question soon and of course more accurate than me.

€: By the way, this thread title is pretty bad, especially for searching issues, something like "LAN support?" would be thousand times better than a simple "Question". Besides that, it's more like a topic for the Support forums.

Though we had LAN support back in there some time ago, we decided for making Conquest a pure online strategy game, at least as long as the beta lasts. Not only can we better track how many people actually play, it also keeps us all options open concerning the future of the game.

I changed the topic and moved it to support.

Hi,

This reply is quite old (>1.5 year), and beta is over I guess, so I'll permit myself to ask for news regarding that point.

So... any plan regarding integrating (back?) LAN support into the game?
I just wanted to try it today with my son, to see if he might like it, and I was unable to do it. :(
Thanks for your answer. :)

Nb.: If concern is only tracking players playing and related stats, which I can understand, I have no issue with the LAN host being forced to send info to the master server. This way you could still have your stats, and maybe you could even display such info on the game list (for people to know they are not alone). And even having the option of mixing LAN players with external players.

Well, we don't have any plans to do so at the moment. Your current options are to either play on an official server (which I think is totally fine unless you want some custom options) or properly forward ports to the machine hosting the game.

What I would like to do, which also reduces the need for LAN support, is joining (or creating) an officially hosted server and being the admin (so you can change all options). This is actually not hard to do at all, it just needs some thought from a design standpoint.

Does any of that solve your problem?

Yes yes! Sorry for not having replied, this does not mean I disagree.
If I disagree I'll reply to tell it. :)

I'd like to try it with my son but he's more MW2 than this... : -/ we'll try anyway using this solution, which is OK for that.

Now... don't take it bad, but "what if" in a few months your site goes down for whatever reason (money shortage due to lack of players in fact). Then we would end up with a cool MP game that can't be played on LAN, so no multi possible at all, or even can't be installed with the latest version because it will try to updates file from a central server that is dead.

This is just a general concern, don't take it personally, but it is important with indie game not having a 'minecraft like' popularity (minecraft having the same update/install issue in fact, but less viability risks).
I'm always hesitating with games that you can buy but don't really own (I mean, you can't use it/install it without internet connection plus vendor site available).

If I want to play huh... let's say UT (or any Quake ;), I can install it from my old CDs, play against Bots or on Lan or by specifying IP with friends with no issue regarding legacy concern (except OS long term issue of course, but then we'll have emulators/VM so...).

Thanks for your answer, and long live to your game & site & related work.

Should be able to install and play Conquest fine even if the update server is dead (or no inet conn). If we were to stop supporting the game we could easily add direct connect and other minor adjustments.

We will be adding LAN support when we get some time for it, or rather direct connect.

What already is in, is customizing all rules on all official servers (both ranked and unranked).
