License

Hi.

I saw the game in Happy Penguin, and came here inmediatly because it thought like I should give it a try. Altough the game looks amazing (The graphics really look superb -as you english speakers say :-D-), I want to know if the game is freeware, shareware...donationware? Or is it GPL or -Insert FOSS license name-? If it is GPL, would you make the sources available anytime soon? Are you planing to release the game under some comercial and closed license in the future?

Thanks, bye!

Hey el_zoona,

Glad to hear you like the graphics!

For now Conquest is simply freeware (free for personal, non-commercial use) and this won't change in the near future. I started the game as sporadic hobby project a few years ago, last May Rok joined in, and since back then we've come quite far. From a programmer's and designer's point of view, we're aiming for optimal source code / game experience (may sound a bit geekish, but for us extremely well written software / games is art). We'll constantly add new features like spectator mode, replays, alliances or a rating system, and one day we might even change the whole world to 3D (Soheil already made some awesome unit models).

If the game feels complete enough and people actually play it a lot, there's a chance we'll go commercial and charge a small one-time fee (~10€). Or maybe we'll figure out we get enough money from our jobs (one can't be a poor student forever) and just publish the source code.
