Update failed

Postby H4Xx0r on 18 Mar 2009, 18:48

I have recently downloaded the win32 installer for conquest, installed the game and then tried to start is.
When i started the conquest.exe file, the updater started to update.
When the updater finished there was an error message in the window and it closed.
When i tried to start the game afterwards, i got a runtime error.

After this i tried everything (reinstalling, reinstalling with redownlaoded installer, restarting) and everytime i started the game it didnt update but start straight away with the same runtime error.

So is assumed that there are some update files left on my pc and searched it finind an Conquest folder in "C:\Users\Johannes\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files" where some spare files, which i deleted.
--> reinstalled and it updated again

unfortunatly i got the same update error again and, logically, the same runtime error-.-

im using vista 32 bit, maybe you can figure something out of the update Logs^^

[17:53] Updater::bootstrap: Warning: Could not copy "./SDL.dll" to Temp/SDL.dll".
[17:53] Updater::bootstrap: Warning: Could not copy "./SDL_image.dll" to Temp/SDL_image.dll".
[17:53] Updater::bootstrap: Warning: Could not copy "./SDL_net.dll" to Temp/SDL_net.dll".
[17:53] Updater::bootstrap: Warning: Could not copy "./zlib1.dll" to Temp/zlib1.dll".

The first thing I can think of is that you do not have enough permissions to copy these files. Do you run Conquest with administrative permissions and if not, could you try doing that?

I do not know exactly how Vista handles permissions. But an alternative to running Conquest as an admin would be to give the user who runs Conquest full access to all files installed by the installer (if that is somehow restricted).

ahh, damn vista:-D
that was the problem, thank you:)

You could try to require Administrator as execution level for Vista, so you could avoid this issue, because i think this problem will probably occur to unexcperienced vista user quite often^^
