Units on Wiki

Postby Wrannie on 08 Dec 2008, 22:42

Hmm why not write the relations in a simpler way?

Like:
Plains:
1 Bomber = 3 Tanks
1 Bomber = 1,5 Troopers
1 Tank = 4 Troopers

Mountains:
1 Bomber = 4 Tanks
1 Bomber = 1 Trooper
1 Tank = 2 Troopers

The multiple power relations are quite confusing. Takes some math homework to calculate...unless the idea is to examine the players math skills :P

It's written in that way because it's taken directly from the implementation in the code. It's the base from which you can calculate everything else needed – such as the relations you posted.

The powers are also important for determining which unit acts and which unit it targets in a battle. That matters a lot when you have squads of more than 1 unit type battling. And by only knowing what you posted it would probably be impossible to determine.

It is though a lot easier to understand at first glance. You can easily edit the existing article and add that in. It says "Please help improve this article by expanding it." for a reason.

I would also add how much power exactly a unit has versus another unit when you calculate all the modifiers in.

Another thing to do would be to write down which combination of units beats which (e.g. 3/0/1 wins against 1/1/1). But wait a bit with that because we changed the battle algorithm and it will be a touch different in the next version. It is also something for a seperate article.

P.S.: Just use your forum account to login to the wiki and edit the article.

Yeah sure, can edit the wiki with all my awesome findings lol, although I probably won't have time before next weekend.

So what exactly is the logic behind the attacks? I assumed the powers sum up, seems I'm wrong. Who goes for whom?

P.S. Oh dear, I should wait with replying --apparently your edited your post in the meantime again :)
I made some tables, don't plan on deleting the original info, just add them with the equations as summary in the end. But tables take a little more time than text to post..so yeah good night and I'll add it when I have time this week.

Done.

Note that this is the algorithm used in the upcoming version, right now there is still some random damage / suboptimal target selection floating around.

No idea. I block quite many things with Firefox, tried IE but cba to do the settings so yielded same results.

It says each time user/pw don't match; however, if I try to register it immediately forwards me to my normal board user (as in already logged in).

It is really no big issue though, can live without the credits...if you care to know what I have edited just note my ip (is dynamic though :P)

I updated the battle algorithm on the wiki to the latest version currently used in the game - and it's quite a bit different to the previous version. It's faster by magnitudes and the winner determination no longer suffers under targeting anomalies, but is now 100% correctly based on power values.
